Addendum to the Parent/Student Handbook

July 2010

 

p.8 Honor Roll-  Add to the 2nd bullet:  The same attendance policy that determines eligibility for Honor Roll applies to eligibility for Blue Knights.

 

p.17 Cell Phones, Pagers, and Other Electronic Devices- Replace paragraph with:  Students are not allowed to have cell phones, pagers, or any other communication device at school or on field trips under any circumstances.  Cell phones that have been confiscated will not be returned.  Parents who need to contact their children during school hours should go through the school office.

 

p.19  P.E. Uniforms-  Change 1st sentence to:  All children in grades four through six are expected to wear P.E. uniforms prescribed by the P.E. Instructor and School Board.

 

p.20  Field Trips and Parent Chaperones- Add to the 1st paragraph:  At least two adults must be in each vehicle if taking more than one child in the vehicle.

And add:  Parent chaperones must not take younger siblings on the field trip.

And add:  Texas Department of Transportations laws must be adhered to when securing children in vehicles.

 

p.24  Fire Drills and Safety Precautions-  Add to the 7th bullet: The following measures are taken to keep the facility free of insects:  Pest control is contracted through licensed professionals, but not in the presence of children, faculty, or staff.  Information about the chemicals used shall be posted in the school office.

 

Add a bullet below the 7th bullet that reads:  Pets on campus should have health permits from a local veterinarian.

p. 25  in the Hours of Operation section there should be a change made to Class Hours. The change should read:  5K  8:00-12:00 (half-day) and 8:00-3:00 (full day).

 

p.28  Below Vision and Hearing Screenings add Allergies.  It should read:

A record of children with allergies shall be kept in the office and in each classroom where the child with the allergy is present.  Directions for care of the allergy shall be provided to each teacher (such as the use of epipens, etc.)  The school may notify parents of any class that includes a child with a life-threatening allergy and restrict certain items that could trigger a response.

 

p.30  Above the Physical Education section add a new section – Movies.

This section should read:  Children may watch an educational video for a limited time each day.  The video must be approved by the School’s Director.  Parents will be notified about the specific video prior to its showing.

Parent/Student Handbook

 

p.40  In the section Pertinent Information under Hours of Operation, the 2nd bullet  should read:  For 2nd-6th graders, Day Care is available from 7:30 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. in Jones Hall.

            The 3rd bullet should read:  After school Day Care is also available.  For 3K students this would be at 11:45 p.m., for 4K students and half-day 5K students this would be at 12:00, for full day 5K students and 1st-3rd graders this would be at 3:10, and for 4th-6th  graders this would be at 3:25 p.m.

            The 4th bullet should read:  All students who have not been picked up during regular dismissal are automatically placed in Day Care pending the arrival of their parents/guardians.  For 3K students, this would be at 12:00 p.m., for 4K and half-day 5K students this would be at 12:15 p.m., for full-day 5K thru 6th graders this would be at 3:40 p.m.

 

Under Dismissal Policy it should read:  Children must be signed out of Day Care in addition to being clocked out.  Only an adult is permitted to sign the child out of Day Care.  Also refer to p.18 for the School’s dismissal policy.

Mr. Robert Swantner from the Brownsville Rotary Club presented Carol George an award for Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. George has been an Episcopal Day School teacher since 1979 and has 34 years total teaching experience.  Congratulations Mrs. George!

 

 

 

 

Jessie Hainley won 2nd place in the Brownsville Fire Marshall's Fire Prevention Poster contest in the 2nd & 3rd grade division.  She was awarded a trophy April 13th at the BISD Central Auditorium.   Congratulations Jessie!
