Athletics

The goal of the physical education program at The Episcopal Day School is to provide students with a basic foundation of motor and manipulative skills, an understanding of the importance of physical fitness and the opportunity to develop effective personal and social skills that will enable them to maintain a healthy, active life long lifestyle. The physical education program encourages the child to develop a sportsmanlike attitude, both as a participant and as a spectator.

Physical Education – 5K – 6 th grade students attend classes 5 times a week for 45 minutes where they participate in ball handling, fitness skills, gymnastics, team games, parachute unit, jump rope unit, kick ball, softball, soccer, indoor hockey, yoga and dance. Our P.E. classes are lead by Mrs. Lisa Money

Field Day – Each year the EDS student body looks forward to this day! 2K - 5K grade classes participate in a half-day of age appropriate field activities. 1st - 6th grades participate in multi-grade team activities for a full day; students look forward to setting up their camp under tents, music and fun. Mrs. Lisa Money organizes this special day with the help of teachers.

Self Defense – Martial Art guest speakers talk with the students in all grade levels about action steps for safety against child predators and different types of bullying. Mrs. Lisa Money organizes this event.

Basketball Team

The Episcopal Day School’s basketball team training is based on the idea that learning in a challenging, yet fun environment yields the best results. The greatest improvement is seen when passion, hard work, fun, and understanding all mesh together on the court. We pride ourselves on the ability to get the most out of each student athlete every time we work with them. This coupled with a unique approach to promote a deeper understanding of the game, has led to great success for all of the players and teams we have worked with over the past 4 years. Our team practices year round and our BANSA season starts in December and ends in February. We also offer summer camps for players in June and July.

During a team training session, players will be put through a series of drills to improve their individual skills and also their knowledge of team play. We may request certain skills be worked on or even drawing up new plays for the team to run in games. Coach Martinez will work side-by-side with students to help the team be the best it can be.

Our Focus:

  1. Preparation
  2. Repetition
  3. Attitude
  4. Concentration
  5. Technique
  6. Intensity
  7. Conditioning
  8. Expectations
  9. Track your training
  10. Train to play the game, don’t play to train.
