1st Grade Program

First graders attend daily Chapel with the Monday through Fridays. Each class assists with the Chapel service on a rotating basis by carrying the cross and leading the service at the microphone. Our students also help present the Chapel lesson on Fridays during their rotation as helpers. Our Chapel curriculum enables the students to learn about a new story from the Bible each week and how to apply those moral lessons to their own life and relationships. Chapel is a great way for the children and teachers to begin their school day by placing God first.

The 1st grade curriculum integrates reading, language arts, spelling, math, social studies & science. The students are emerging from phonics into reading, as well as mastering their math facts and learning how to apply them to math problems.

First grade science is a project-based curriculum including: paper plane design and flying while studying force and motion, completing a research project on family traits, and making pinhole cameras while learning about the properties of light.

Many of the skills taught in first grade establish an educational foundation that is built upon throughout the elementary years.

The students have many new experiences in first grade including switching teachers for certain subjects, eating lunch with the 2nd & 3rd grade classes, and playing on the big playscapes like the pentaweb.

Special Area classes include Music, Physical Education, Computer Science, Library, Spanish, Nature Trail, Makerspace and Special Purpose Fridays.
